What you see – Champs, the sports bar at Hotel Gokulam Park Inn is the only one of its kind in the city. Polished wooden floors, posters of various sporting activities on the walls and subdued lighting combine to create a comfortable informal ambience. Two television sets above the bar keep customers updated with the live telecasts of two cricket matches.

What you get – Champs has a cover of 70 and serves the choicest liquor, beverages and snacks. Special DJ nights are arranged here occasionally.

 

They have almost all the international and Indian brands of beer, scotch, rum and vodka. Brands like Vat 69, Johnny Walker and Famous Grouse are some choices that you have here. Among beers, Kingfisher, Hayward’s 5000 and Fosters are popular. Beer is the most consumed drink with one beer costing Rs. 80. Their Martinis too are quite a hit. The Apple Pie Shooter (Rs. 220), a shot of apple juice and spiced rum shaken with cinnamon and whipped cream is definitely worth a try.

 

At Champs, you can choose to have snacks and even meals. The predominantly Continental menu includes Roast Chicken, Soutzoukakia (Greek dish of meatballs in tomato sauce), Chicken Burger etc. The popular Indian options are paratha with chicken curry or any other non-vegetarian or vegetarian dish. Three parathas and a chicken fry come for Rs. 90.

 

Our verdict – Champs is the only sports bar in the city and is a popular hangout for the corporate crowd. The prices are moderate compared to other pubs in Cochin. But the service is not quick, and you may have to wait a while for your drink. The parking lot can accommodate a total of 30 cars and more than 50 two wheelers at a time.
