Food fun at Food Circle What you see — The Food Circle at level four, Oberon Mall, Cochin, is a great place to hangout after a day at the mall. There are several cuisines to choose from; so whether you are in a mood for American, Chinese, North Indian, South Indian, Arabian or Italian, the Food Circle has it all! The seating area is done up with sleek tables and chairs in chic white as well as high tables and stools. Around 300 diners can be seated at a time. There are five counters, one each for Krispy Fried Chicken, Noodle King, Dosa Express, Rasoi, Arabian Treat and Pizza Indiana; while Bread World and Meriboy ice creams are standalone sections.
What you get — Krispy Fried Chicken is quite a favorite with kids and lovers of chicken. It offers a variety of burgers, subs, wraps, individual and family meals, kid’s meal and an assortment of delicious accompaniments, such as wedges, rice and French fries, among others. The outlet is known for its “broasted” chicken, a special type of fried chicken that’s crispy and juicy. Pick from the likes of Zinker Spicy burger, Krispy burger, Chicken Bucket (chicken in a bucket), Value Meal (that includes 1 piece chicken, 2 pieces of chicken strips, coleslaw and bun), Krispy Fish Wrap and more.
Then there's Noodle King that serves Chinese cuisine and offers a variety of yummy soups, salads, starters, rice and noodles and main course dishes. Take your pick from the likes of Szechwan Chilly Vegetables, Chicken Ball Manchurian, Lamb Bell Pepper, Shanghai Rice and Chilli Garlic Chicken Noodles. The fare is mouth-watering. However, the servings are small and a plate of noodles or rice can serve only one person. The goodness of BTH’s South Indian food, that’s available at Kempu and Kaloor Coffee Shop, is now at Dosa Express as well. The Masala Dosa, Vadas and Butter Roast are as delicious as ever, and make for a light evening snack when you don’t want to end up feeling too bloated!
Cochin has a dearth of authentic North Indian food spots and Rasoi aptly fills that gap. The Biryanis, Dals, Rotis, Chicken, Paneer and Vegetable preparations are to die for! The melted butter on the Naans, the spicy fragrance of masalas in the rice and the aroma of ghee on the main course dishes make this one quite an indulgence. It’s definitely from the heart of North India’s rasois. For lovers of Arabic food, Arabian Treat is indeed a treat! Though the prices are a bit steep per plate, the serving is quite sufficient and oh-so-heavenly. From delectable Arabian Shawarma to Chicken Wings and from Spicy Chicken/Mutton Tikkas to Mix Seafood Grill, this one will spoil you for choices. The combo meals make the task easier with great combinations like Chicken Kabab with Rice, Gravy, Salad and soft drink. You will also find Arabian Biryani, Arabian Majboos, Arabic Salads, Khuboos here.
To taste some Indian flavors in your Italian food, head to Pizza Indiana for its yummy Pizza Rolls, Salads, Pasta, Calzones, Toasts and Pizzas. Check out the Chicken Pasta Indiana and the Hindustani Mirchi Pizza among others. They are quite delectable and filling too. Don’t expect Pizza Hut-like flavor, but Pizza Indiana’s got personality!
The good ol’ Bread World makes its appearance at the Food Circle with its variety of baked goodies; so get ready for spring rolls, cutlets, sandwiches, puffs, pastries, cakes, cookies and a lot more! The Bread World counter is ideal if you are in a hurry and can’t wait for your order. As desserts, Meriboy Ice creams did not impress us much. One, Meriboy ice creams aren’t particularly known for their taste; and two, the sundaes whipped up are way too highly priced for their quality. The quantity is huge and perhaps it doesn’t work too well as a dessert after a heavy meal. Kids, however, will enjoy the myriad variety of ice creams and sundaes.
Our verdict — The dining experience at Food Circle is pleasant. The place is clean, the staff at each counter is cordial and the choice of food is aplenty. On weekends, it can take quite a while for your order to get ready; but that’s natural. Luckily they have a buzzer system in place, so you don’t have to wait at the counter. Just wait for the buzzer given to you to beep and head to the counter to collect your order! Strangely, none of the counters offer glasses for pet bottle drinks and expect guests to pick them up from the drinking water dispenser. On a good day, you may be lucky to find seating by the glass walls. The view of Cochin is pretty neat from here. There is plenty of parking space at the mall.
What you pay for a meal for two — Rs. 150–400
