Get Fit at B-Fit Fitness Club What you see — A combination of a gym, a cardiozone, an aerobic studio and a badminton court is uncommon in Cochin, but not at B-Fit fitness club, Girinagar. The Cosmopolitan Club Building (where B-Fit is located) holds, within its rather plain façade, a 1,800 square feet full-fledged unisex gym that includes a cardiozone, a 1,200 square feet aerobic studio and two badminton courts. While the gym has world-class fitness equipment and trainers to help you tone up, the aerobic studio gives you the perfect opportunity to let go and “dance” to the peppy music. The indoor badminton courts are well lit and have significant ventilation, allowing sportspersons to enjoy their game.
What you get — At B-Fit fitness club, there are no excuses for not getting fit and staying so. Bindu Prakash, owner and principal fitness instructor strongly believes that there are no limits to one’s potential. In fact, she will convince you that getting fit is not just about the body; it involves the mind too. The good thing is, you will agree with her.
Bindu has been in the field of fitness and training for over 10 years. Today, she has an enviable team of expert trainers working under her, that offers scientifically well-engineered training programs, personal training, and diet and weight management services. So, whether you want to lose weight, build your muscles, tone up or stay in shape, B-Fit offers you a variety of fitness options so that you never get bored of working out.
If you prefer working out on cardiovascular equipment or strength equipment, head to the unisex gym. Treadmills, cycles, weight machines, steppers, you name it, the gym has it. The good news is, there is enough number of equipment and you will never have to wait for a fellow gym-mate to get off! You can go for a personal trainer at Rs. 2,500 per month, who will set achievable goals for toning up. Then again, you can choose to work out independently but under the watchful eye of the trainers. Annual membership comes at Rs. 11,000, and there are special rates for couple membership, corporate membership and guest membership. Memberships are also available at half-yearly, quarterly and monthly rates. The gym membership has other related facilities like changing and locker room and steam room and shower. There is no exclusive ladies' time but there are both male and female trainers. B-Fit also has a nutritionist to help with diet plans.
For those who detest trudging on gym equipment, aerobics is a great option. The aerobic studio has two batches of classes - five days per week and three days per week. These come at Rs. 1,600 and Rs. 1,300 per month, respectively. Bindu personally conducts these classes, which are alternated between dance, step and body conditioning.
Finally, the badminton court. For Rs. 3,500 per month, a group of maximum five members can use the court for one hour daily. B-Fit provides training for children from 4 PM to 6 PM for Rs. 1,300 per month.
Our verdict — The gym has an impressive range of equipment, which we loved. But compared to the Soft Touch Gym, there is limited empty space that one may require for stretching and floor exercises. B-Fit conducts what they call ‘Fruity Fridays’ wherein they explain the goodness of a particular fruit and serve the same to the “gymmers” after the day’s workout. Fascinating! While we were at the gym, a regular “gymmer” commented that she lost her paunch, thanks to the training at B-Fit. We had to agree, looking at her slim, sculpted frame.
We found the aerobic classes very interesting. The music was energetic, the dance steps fast yet simple to follow and the ambiance stimulating. Bindu is full of life and ensures that her “class” is never out of step, but is out of breath at the end of the one-hour training. The aerobic studio is good looking and has plenty of ventilation.
At the badminton court, we found the ‘group’ system a little strange, because it leaves no opportunity for newcomers to join, unless it’s not the rush hour (typically before office hours).
Parking space is available for approximately six cars and more than a dozen two-wheelers. Most car owners will have to find a spot outside the club building, on the narrow street.
Anytime between — 5 AM - 9 PM (Gym; Monday to Saturday)
7.30 AM - 8.30 AM (Aerobics 1st batch; Monday to Friday)
9.30 AM - 10.30 AM (Aerobics 2nd batch; Monday, Wednesday, Friday)
5 AM - 9 PM (Badminton; Monday to Saturday)
