What you see – A green lawn with lots of trees in front of the multistoried hospital building was the first thing that MetroMela noticed at Amrita Institute of Medical Science. In the reception counter we came across the busy staff attending to the registrations and case sheets of the patients. The walls of the hospital were painted white with the photos of Mata Amritanandamayi displayed prominently. In the waiting area of the hospital the patients and their relatives flipped through magazines and television channels while waiting for their turn.
What you get – This hospital located at Edappally, is run by Mata Amritanandamayi Math, a charitable trust that has its headquarters in Kollam, a district in Kerala. Amrita Institute of Medical Science is an 800-bed hospital and offers super specialty treatments for all kinds of ailments.
The hospital is equipped with modern diagnostic equipment and 22 operation theatres. Anesthesiology, general medicine, orthopaedics, psychiatry, pulmonary medicine, general and vascular surgery, endocrinology, cardiology, dermatology, ENT (ear, nose and throat), gastroenterology, neurology, nephrology and urology are some of the departments of treatment in the hospital.

The Comprehensive Health Check includes the Executive Health Check and a treadmill test, while Master Health Check has cancer detection tests, cardiology consultation and tests for Hepatitis B in addition to all tests from the comprehensive check plan. A special package for diabetics includes blood sugar tests, urine profile tests, ophthalmic check up, Doppler test and others.
Amrita Institute of Medical Science has a lifestyle clinic for which provides solutions for various lifestyle related diseases like obesity, hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, stroke and various deaddiction programmes.
The hospital has an emergency care unit with a 36 bed ICU with round-the-clock services of physicians and nurses, 24-hour X-Ray facilities, an ultrasound centre, a CT scan centre and 24-hour diagnostic and catheterization laboratory and a mobile ICU that is available at all times. The hospital has a well-stocked pharmacy which provides medicines to the patients at reduced prices.

Our verdict – Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences is one of the biggest and most acclaimed hospitals in the city providing super specialty treatments. The hospital canteen meets the dietary requirements of the patients and the parking lot has space for as many as 50 cars.
